The Mystery of the "CX" Solved?

We have had three "CX" bikes appear here that readers thought might be a Cinelli because of the use of Cinelli frame building components; the photos are here. Cinelli has said that they did not make these frames.

I received a note from reader Gordon saying that, "I send you some pics of a NOS Basso CX frame I purchased some years ago in Italy. It was unused, the fork uncut and it had the original paintwork; the dealer also offered me another one in a different size also NOS."

Giotto Cinelli

A reader advises that he has this 1946 Giotto Cinelli on ebay (here). We have photos of another such bike, and additional information, here.

 N.B. There has been some discussion (on classicrendezvous) about whether this is in fact a Giotto Cinelli frame, and in addition a direct comment was left here saying, "Hello, your site is very important. It is a point of reference for all, I look at it often and willingly congratulations. This last bike is not a cinelli giotto,  just the badge is giotto....I tell you so don't make confusion among fans."

I have not personally seen a Giotto Cinelli so you will have to do your own research regarding the offered bicycle.

My thanks to Matteo who wrote in with, "I wanted to share with you this wonder that with great pleasure that I brought back to Italy from Russia. I still have to fix some details.  Speaking with Antonio Colombo it seems that they they built four blue and two white frames with Columbus MAX fork and stem for the national USSR team. The two whites were used at the Olympic Games in Seoul (along with the two others with handlebar and stem) and the four blue ones were used in training." 

I would be smiling also if I had those!
