Cinelli Laser Fanini

A very interesting 1983 Fanini "Record", serial number 20, made by Cinelli presumably. I asked the owner, Stefan of speedbicycles.ch, and he said "As far as I know it is Laser with a special Fanini finish." It does appear very similar to the Cinelli Laser pictured here that was on a display.

If anyone has more information about the Cinelli-Fanini tie-in please write in.

Cinelli Laser Crono sn 7 86

CINELLI ONLY reader Ronny writes in with, "The frame is dated number 7 86 and is probably the first Max frame built. I have been in contact with Cinelli/Columbus about this frame and for confirmation of my thoughts. I found the bike in Russia where it has been since the 80s. The bike is now painted and will be assembled in December. I will send new photos as soon as it is built up, I am waiting only for some parts."

Cinelli "Laser" and Andrea Pesenti

My thanks, again, to reader Christoph who has provided additional information regarding the history behind the Cinelli "Laser".

The image above comes from an article in the December, 1984, issue of the German magazine TOUR. The article is about a cycling trip through Italy and includes a visit to Cinelli. The author and photographer, Carlson Reinhard, writes about this visit that they were escorted during the visit by Signor Chirico who studied under Master Valsassina for eleven years. He also wrote that Andrea Pesenti was the designer of the new Laser model and that he built them himself by hand in a private studio.

In the photograph (click to enlarge) Signor Chirico is far left. Andrea Pesenti is holding a Laser frame and Andrea Cinelli is fourth from left (in suit). The other two persons were not identified.
