Cinelli Tour d’Afrique



After the first experience in Uganda, BOOTLEG starts a new Africa adventure to test the "Racing Rats" along the world’s longest bicycle race: The Tour d’Afrique, an 11,693 km bicycle expedition and race from Cairo to Cape Town.

Traveling more than 70 miles per day, 50 racers and expedition riders will experience the boundless Nubian desert of Sudan, the great majesty of Victoria Falls, and finally the cold rush of the Atlantic Ocean.

The Racing Rats will be ridden by Tour Leader Sharita Van der Merwe, the Race Director Cristiano Wernick, and the Medic Claire Peglar.

Cinelli/Tour d’Afrique cycling caps and T-shirts will be on sale on Cinelli Genuine Merchandise website with the intent of raising 3000 Euros with the proceeds being given to the Tour d’Afrique Foundation to use in purchasing bicycles during the 2013 Tour d’Afrique expedition. The merchandise will be available here soon.

In the USA the largest sellers of Cinelli bikes were Kopp's Cycles, the oldest bicycle shop in America, in Princeton, NJ and the Cupertino Bike Shop of Spence Wolfe in Cupertino, California.

Spence and Lillian Wolfe at their Cupertino Bike Shop. They only dealt in quality lightweights and became West Coast (of U.S.A.) importers for Cinelli frames. Spence was also a bike mechanic of "guru" stature and collaborated with the Phil Wood company on their component designs.

1981 Cinelli SC









Note: 1981 Cinelli SC (serial # 8168). Pearlescent white paint. 3 hole lugs. 26 mm (not 26.2) seatpost but fits perfectly and clearly is the original post. Columbus SL tubing. Campagnolo Super Record components (including Ti axles and spindles), tastefully pantographed chainring and shifters, Cinelli VIP Almarc bar and stem (1R), 36 spoke wheels with DT spokes and Ambrosia Extra Elite 19 clinchers with Specialized Touring II tires.
