Arrigo Cinelli Stem, pre-Brevettato

Back in February, 2010, we had photos of a rare Arrigo Cinelli stem. The stem is a "Tipo Speciale" and has the word "Brevettato" (patented) under the logo.

A reader recently sent me photos of another Arrigo Cinelli stem. The stem, in the form of an integrated handlebar/stem combination, was found on a completely original and unadulterated 1939 Gloria Garibaldina "Donna". They are quite similar to the later Cinelli Milano model "Tirolo".

The "Arrigo Cinelli-Firenze" mark is engraved on the underside, without "Brevettato".

This lends credibility to the information of the early years about Cinelli before WW II that Arrigo started the Cinelli company while Cino was still an active as a professional cyclist.

Cinelli "Laser" and Gilberto Colombo

My thanks to reader Christoph who provided a source of information regarding the history of the Cinelli "Laser".

Gilberto Colombo (GILberto COlumbo) was involved to steel tubing design (GILCO) and frame design. The top photo above refers to the 1985 Laser project and includes a drawing of the steering mechanism of a time trial Laser. The drawing was accompaniend by a photo of an actual time trial Laser.

1946 Cinelli Ad

Thanks to reader Matteo for sending this image of a very early Cinelli advertisement from Spring, 1946. "...is it an ancient warrior? NO. It is the herald that announces to the crowds the arrival of the colt of steel, the Cinelli bicycle." Note "Firenze" under the herald.

I noted that this herald also appears on the 1946 Giotto Cinelli engraved crankset that appeared in this article recently.
